Spain authorises tenders for eight service areas with ultra-fast charging
The 13 October decision enables tenders for six concessions covering eight state-road service areas, including Algemesí and La Roca del Vallés. It does not announce openings.

What was announced
On 13 October 2026 Spain’s cabinet authorised tenders for six concession contracts to build and operate eight service areas with ultra-fast EV charging on state roads. This is an administrative milestone, not the opening of new stations.
The planned locations are La Caridad, Penagos, Calatayud, Montoro, Perales de Tajuña, Saelices, Algemesí and La Roca del Vallés, across the A-2, A-3, A-4, AP-7 and A-8. Five areas will serve both sides of their roads.
The estimated concession value is €611.9 million excluding VAT; about €78 million covers initial construction. The larger figure is not solely a charger-purchase budget. Successful bidders must prepare projects, secure approval, finance and execute construction, and may operate the facilities for 20–25 years.
The announcement gives no opening dates. Travellers must continue checking operational chargers rather than treating these locations as available stops. The photograph illustrates an existing installation in Cala Millor, Mallorca, from 2025, not any of the eight planned areas.

More charging infrastructure is planned, but tender authorisation must not be confused with actual availability.
