Spain expands public charging, but almost 18,000 installed points remain inactive
ANFAC’s third-quarter 2026 Electromobility Barometer counts 58,075 public charging points in Spain. Almost a quarter of the installed infrastructure is still not operational.

What was announced
ANFAC published its third-quarter 2026 barometer on 8 October. Spain’s public network reached 58,075 charging points, adding 1,393 during the quarter, a rise of 2.5%. These are connection points, rather than a count of sites or entire charging stations.
The association also identifies 17,965 installed but non-operational points, representing 23.6% of all installed infrastructure. Reasons include faults and pending distribution-grid connections. Bringing them into service could raise the operational total to 76,040; that is a potential figure, not the network available today.
Power matters too: 6,651 operational points offer at least 150 kW, or 11.4% of the network. Homeowners can use this context when weighing regular public charging against a home installation. National statistics do not guarantee availability at a particular station. Before travelling, check its status, connector and power with the operator; home charging must suit the vehicle and the electricity supply.
What it means for your home
When choosing an EV, assess working chargers near home and on your routes, alongside the total number installed.
