Mutua: 75% of surveyed plug-in car owners charge at home
A survey of 1,200 electric and plug-in hybrid car owners in Spain places home first among charging locations. Its findings describe respondents, not every Spanish household.

What was announced
Mutua Madrileña published its report on electric vehicle use in Spain on 14 October 2026. Demométrica surveyed a random sample of 1,200 owners of battery-electric or plug-in hybrid cars across Spain. The figures concern this group of users, rather than the entire population.
The report says 75% charge at home and 33% use public charging points. These categories can overlap and should not be added as shares of a single total. Under the study’s classification, 58% favour slow or domestic charging and 11% fast charging.
Among households with more than one vehicle that have bought a plug-in car, 79.1% use it as their main vehicle. The figure is 84.1% for battery-electric cars and 74.3% for plug-in hybrids. This is not the share of all Spanish households owning an electric car.
The public release does not specify fieldwork dates, a margin of error or breakdowns by housing type or charging power. It establishes neither a particular saving nor the charger a home needs. For an installation project, the findings provide context about use patterns, rather than technical sizing.
What it means for your home
Assess home charging alongside household consumption, vehicle schedules and compatibility. The survey’s 75% is not a savings promise or a recommended charging power.
