Shared solar: more options for neighbours

IDAE’s campaign explains changes including a self-consumption manager and distances up to 5 km for solar and wind, subject to legal and technical conditions.

What was announced

On 18 May, IDAE announced renewed promotion of its self-consumption campaign. The communication explains measures such as a collective self-consumption manager and distances of up to 5 km in the specified cases for solar and wind installations.

That radius does not make every nearby rooftop an available shared installation. Projects must meet the applicable legal and technical conditions, identify participants and arrange the necessary connection and allocation of energy.

For neighbours considering a joint project, the first questions are suitable space and usable demand. Ownership, responsibilities and allocation criteria then need assessment. Sharing generation also does not mean a home will have independent electricity during a grid outage: that requires a specific technical backup solution.

What it means for your home

For a shared project, assess participants’ consumption, roof space, energy allocation and connection conditions.
