Enphase says IQ EV Charger 2 already supports the EU's 2027 standard

Enphase confirms that IQ EV Charger 2 already includes ISO 15118-20, required from 1 January 2027 for newly installed or renovated charging points in the EU. Existing units of this model need no hardware change.

What was announced

Enphase Energy confirmed on 21 October 2026 that its IQ EV Charger 2 already supports ISO 15118-20. Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2025/656 requires the protocol from 1 January 2027 for newly installed or renovated AC and DC charging points, both public and private, across the European Union, including Spain.

The manufacturer says support has been built in since launch. Distributors and installers can keep the current product reference, while IQ EV Charger 2 units already on customer sites need no component replacement to support the protocol. The EU requirement concerns points installed or renovated from the stated date; it does not automatically make every older charger non-compliant.

ISO 15118-20 governs secure communication between the vehicle and charger. It can provide the foundation for automatic authentication and bidirectional functions, but only where the vehicle, installation design, software and applicable approvals also support them. Protocol support alone does not mean that every car can power a home or export to the grid today.

For a home in Spain, the announcement lowers the risk of selecting hardware now that would soon be outdated against the 2027 requirement. Available power, electrical protection, dynamic load balancing and integration with solar or batteries still need to be designed for the individual property. Enphase plans further over-the-air updates to expand features and vehicle compatibility.

What it means for your home

Buyers considering this charger can verify that its hardware already supports the 2027 EU protocol. Future bidirectional charging still depends on the vehicle, home system, software and local rules.
